The Morgan Excalibur Tenor New York Model was designed by Morgan craftsman Erik Greiffenhagen and inspired by the classic mouthpieces produced by Meyer Bros. in New York. Its chamber is slightly larger than our standard medium-chamber design, giving the New York Model additional depth and complexity while retaining the quick response and projection of the Excalibur design.
With its streamlined body, round chamber, low rollover baffle and thin interior walls, the New York Model produces a traditional medium-bright tenor sound with body, complexity and edge.

Excalibur New York or Jazz New York?
Both models are inspired by the classic Meyer Bros. New York tenor mouthpieces and feature a slightly larger-than-medium round chamber with a low rollover baffle. The primary difference is the body design and the resulting playing feel.
The Excalibur Tenor New York uses Morgan's slender, streamlined Excalibur body with thin interior walls. This gives it a quick response, strong projection and additional edge and brilliance while retaining the body and complexity of the New York-style chamber.
The Jazz Tenor New York uses Morgan's traditional wider hard rubber body. It offers the feel of a traditional hard rubber tenor mouthpiece with an easy-blowing response and a complex medium-to-bright tonal character.
If you prefer a slender, metal-like mouthpiece feel with quick response and added edge, choose the Excalibur New York. If you prefer a traditional hard rubber body and embouchure feel, consider the Jazz New York.

Handcrafted the Morgan Way
The Morgan Excalibur is handcrafted using methods that date back to the great American mouthpiece makers of the 1940s and 1950s. We begin with our proprietary 100% pure hard rubber, molded and cured to our specifications.
Rather than relying on CNC machining to create the finished interior, our craftsmen shape and finish the facing curve, tip and side rails, chamber and baffle by hand. Each mouthpiece is individually finished and voiced for response, balance and consistency.

I play tested the Ex (HR 9 Tenor) and decided it was a keeper within minutes. Three major factors led to this decision. 1) The Ex has a solid palette of tones, varying notably depending on how much air you give it, etc. 2) When pushed a bit, the Ex really slaps (especially in the upper register) issuing a relatively bright vintage sound. Adding a growl, one can produce a solid rockabilly tone. 3) At the same time, the Ex is extremely consistent across the horn (P. Mauriat 76/2) at each choice of tonal focus. Notes speak clearly, allowing for increased facility and speed in articulation.
While I won't use it as my all-purpose piece, the Ex is a great choice for bringing in some special character to your playing. Plus, I plan to shed with it a fair amount, since the clarity and articulation are so good.
I did find that a metal lig danced better than the included Rovner. For my ears, a metal lig allows the brightness of the Ex to ring out a bit more.
What a joy! Such a wonderful, easy blowing and full sounding mouthpiece! I am blown away by the quality and ease of use. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of Morgan mouthpieces. I plan on all my future mouthpieces to come from Morgan, and I look forward to enjoying more Morgan mouthpieces for all of my other saxophones in the near future! Thank you Ralph Morgan!
The Morgan Excalibur NY is extremely free blowing, responsive, and has a great sound. Its a great piece of equipment!
Love it! Plays very easy and big! Not easy to find a piece that does!
I recently acquired one of these in a 6 facing, and find the sound it produces to be a perfect combination of dark and bright, very powerful and very reed friendly. I’ve had a number of Morgan mouthpieces in both M and L chambers and have never been quite satisfied with the sound they produce until trying this ML chamber. You owe it to yourself to try one of these, it may just be what you’ve been looking for too!
