The Morgan Jazz Mouthpieces are handcrafted the “Vintage” way. Ralph Morgan started the company with the purpose of bringing back the lost art and science of truly handcrafted mouthpieces. Our materials, tools, and process of making mouthpieces are identical to the manufacturers of the 1940s and 1950s. We start with our 100% pure rubber formula; we mold and cure our mouthpieces to our exact specifications. No machines are used in the cutting and shaping of our mouthpieces. We cut our facings and shape the chambers and baffles all by hand. Our craftsmen are among the most experienced in the world with 80+ years experience among the three of them.

I have just bought this mouthpiece two days ago, first impression has been: wow! my search for a Meyer Bros "clone" is over. I have tried many of these (Navarro, Drake, Ishimori, Pillinger, Aizen and some others: the Morgan is in my opinion the best. I never played a Meyer bros 6 medium chamber, but I have a 5 small chamber that is obiouvsly different as my Meyer New York I got broken several years ago was.
This one is very very good: perfect intonation. even tone, the right edge and brightness with a full rich and warm tone.
Thumbs up, thanks a lot to all the guys at Morgan's, keep working this way!
P.S.: I've just bought an original Morgan 9 for tenor on Ebay, I can't wait to play it...
Can't go wrong with this piece on alto - flexible, extremely responsive, powerful, but works for ballads too. Works well with a FL Ultimate ligature, but the stock Rovner is also very good Have tried some much more expensive models (including Meyer clones and "souped up" Meyers) but keep coming back to this one. The backbore was a little tight for my neck cork but Erik was kind enough to enlarge it for an easier fit. Outstanding mouthpiece.
Just recived a NY 6 for alto. What...a...mouthpiece! I have to say this one of the best mouthpieces I've ever played in over 25 years of playing. It's extremely responsive and offers the perfect amount of resistance. I tried it on a Custom Z, a Yamaha 23, and a 1936 Buescher and it plays perfectly in tune on all of them. One of its greatest achievements was making the 23 sound more like the Custom Z, which is good news for somebody who wants to step up in mouthpieces, but is still playing on a modest horn. But what I am most impressed with is the combination of edge and warmth, and most particularly its responsiveness to subtle changes in embouchure. It's an extremely flexible piece, one you can pull some edginess out of or make warmer with different styles of blowing. After comparing this to many other mouthpieces, D'Addario, a Drake Phil Woods, a Theo Wanne NY Bros 2, a Rousseau Studio Jazz, a Gigliotti, a contemporary Meyer, and a contemporary hard rubber Otto Link, I have to say the Morgan is the most finely finished, expressive piece of them all, meaning you can play with different timbres on the fly. All the above mouthpieces in my opinion were good if you are aiming for one particular sound. But if you want a mouthpiece that gives you many options as a response to different air stream and embouchure adjustments, THIS is your mouthpiece. All hyperbole aside, I think this is precisely the kind of mouthpiece Phil Woods must have played on to get all those tonal colors in piece of music or in one phrase.
First let me say that not all ligatures will easily fit this mouthpiece. The one provided will, of course, but most metal ligatures may not. So, here's what fit of the several I own: the Yany Six by Yanagisawa, a Vandoren Optimum sized for clarinet, and the Selmer top mounted single screw ligature. My BG and all two screw ligatures for alto didn't quite fit. Now that we're past that, I bought this mouthpiece because it was modeled after the Meyer New York model mouthpiece, which I own two of. It didn't play like the Meyer, even though it was the same tip opening. It took awhile to get used to the playing characteristics of this mouthpiece, so the ten day period is a good idea. The more I play it, the more I like this piece. Aside from the obvious quality and craftsmanship, it plays exceptionally well on my Selmer SA80-ii and my Yanagisawa AWO10. This mouthpiece is a winner.
The expectations for this piece was high, as I’m looking for “that†sound - for 20+ years I’ve been on a custom Excalibur that Mr. Ralph Morgan and I spent many hours perfecting. This NY 6 feels good, slightly stuffy in the mid-high range. Bottom could use better speaking. Nice sound, good intonation. Might be perfect with some work.
