Size

The Morgan Jazz Soprano is our traditional hard rubber jazz soprano mouthpiece. Its chamber is slightly larger than those found in many standard modern jazz soprano mouthpieces, helping produce a warm, full-bodied tone while retaining the focus, clarity and quick response soprano players need.

The chamber incorporates a choke throat for a focused tonal center and excellent projection, while the somewhat larger chamber adds warmth and depth without taking the design as far as our Jazz Soprano Large Chamber.

Compared with the Jazz Soprano Large Chamber, the standard Jazz Soprano offers a more focused and responsive feel with additional brightness and clarity. Each mouthpiece is individually hand-finished and voiced for response, balance and consistency.

Choosing a Size

The Morgan Jazz Soprano is available in tip openings from .050" to .075", offering a range of choices for resistance, flexibility and reed setup.

Most Popular: 5 (.060") — Our best-selling Jazz Soprano size and an excellent starting point for players looking for a balance of response, flexibility, projection and tonal depth.

If you're unsure which size to choose, the 5 (.060") is our most popular choice and a great place to start.

8 (.075") is available by custom order.

Jazz Soprano or Jazz Soprano Large Chamber?

Both models are handcrafted from pure hard rubber and designed for a traditional soprano sound, but their different chamber designs give them distinct playing characteristics.

The Jazz Soprano uses a standard chamber with a choke throat, providing a more focused response with additional brightness and clarity. It is an excellent choice for players looking for a versatile, traditional jazz soprano mouthpiece for a modern instrument.

The Jazz Soprano Large Chamber uses a larger, more open chamber and shortened shank. It was designed in part to help with intonation and tuning on many older vintage soprano saxophones, where modern mouthpieces can sometimes be difficult to position properly. On modern soprano saxophones, its large chamber also produces a darker, fuller tonal character.

Choose the Jazz Soprano for a more focused, responsive sound with additional brightness. Consider the Jazz Soprano Large Chamber if you play a vintage soprano with tuning or mouthpiece-position issues, or simply want a darker, broader sound on a modern soprano.
