Choosing a Size
The Morgan Jazz Tenor New York Model is available in tip openings from .085" to .115", offering a range of choices for resistance, flexibility and reed setup.
Most Popular: 7NY (.095") — Our best-selling size and an excellent starting point for players looking for a versatile balance of response, flexibility, tonal breadth and projection.
The smaller openings provide greater resistance and control, while the larger openings offer progressively more flexibility and room to shape the sound.
Not sure which size to choose? The 7NY (.095") is our most popular choice and a great place to start.
Jazz New York or Excalibur New York?
Both models are inspired by the classic Meyer Bros. New York tenor mouthpieces and feature a slightly larger-than-medium round chamber with a low rollover baffle. The primary difference is the body design and the resulting playing feel.
Jazz Tenor New York — Uses Morgan's traditional wider hard-rubber body. It offers the feel of a traditional hard-rubber tenor mouthpiece with an easy-blowing response and a complex medium-to-bright tonal character.
Excalibur Tenor New York — Uses Morgan's slender, streamlined Excalibur body with thinner interior walls. This gives it a quicker response, stronger projection and additional edge and brilliance while retaining the body and complexity of the New York-style chamber.
Choose the Jazz New York if you prefer the traditional hard-rubber body and embouchure feel with a broad, complex sound. Choose the Excalibur New York if you prefer a slimmer, metal-like mouthpiece feel with quicker response and additional edge and projection.
Prefer the slimmer Excalibur design? Explore the Morgan Excalibur Tenor New York Model.
Handcrafted the Morgan Way
Ralph Morgan founded Morgan Mouthpieces with the goal of preserving the art and science of the traditionally handcrafted mouthpiece. The materials, tools and techniques used in our handcrafted models reflect the mouthpiece-making traditions of the great vintage mouthpieces that inspired Ralph.
The Jazz Tenor New York begins with Morgan's proprietary 100% pure hard rubber, molded and cured to our specifications. Rather than relying on CNC machining to create the finished interior, our craftsmen shape and finish the facing curve, tip and side rails, chamber and baffle by hand.
Each mouthpiece is individually finished and voiced for response, balance and consistency.

Still working it out. The middle and high registers I worked out. The lower register I'm figuring out.
These are excellent mouthpieces with great variety to match various play styles. I had trouble getting in touch with anyone with questions during the trial, but other than that the process was very smooth.
I expected this one to be overly bright for my taste, but was surprised to find it retained more depth than I expected. It had my tone leaning more towards Charlie Parker or John Coltrane, and the clean sound made fast runs sound very crisp. Similar to tge Indiana, though, I found it abit more resistant than I’d like.
This is my second Morgan mouthpiece. Great fidelity and intonation throughout the horn. Great jazz mouthpiece.
I could not believe the response I got as soon as I started playing. So easy to be expressive. I bought a Morgan for my alto a few years ago and love it. But this Jazz Tenor New York Model is going to bring the best out of me. Thanks!!
The Jazz Tenor NY is a joy to play. The sound is easily shaped and colored, as well as versatile for all genres. A wonderful fat tone with a moldable edge that I love. And, it is crazy responsive. It speaks like no other piece that I’ve played. So much so, that my hands are more relaxed than they ever have been. I can get the aggression through the horn with much less effort.
I am a mouthpiece junkie and this has easily become my favorite tenor mouthpiece, easily edging out my Guardala Traditional, Brecker I, and Studio which are very expressive, but lack the depth of the Morgan.
As far as I am concerned, this mouthpiece is worth much more than what I paid for it, judging by the cost of other mouthpieces that don’t hold a candle to the Morgan’s. Do yourself a favor and try these mouthpieces. It will be worth your time and money!
