This is a great ligature. It is secure enough on my Excalibur and looks very fancy.
After many years playing a high-baffle, smaller chambered metal tenor mouthpiece, I recently tried the Morgan Excalibur 'M', seeking more open flow and a 'denser' core tone (hard to describe in words) which has worked out great. I bought an Excalibur 'NY' chamber recently, to go a little darker, and that's good too.
Now, the Rovner Light ligature that came with my Excaliburs is a fine match, however I gave this Marc Jean II (Woodstock) ligature a try, and I'm glad I did.
First, for being a rigid ligature it fits the Excalibur profile perfectly, making for easy placement and reed positioning; and second, the hardwood pressure plate with minimal contact points (like rails) lets the reed vibrate a bit more. My tone is a little crisper, and tonguing feels snappier.
The Marc Jean II has very high-quality workmanship and ergonomics, the screw is long enough to get a good grip, and the ligature feels solid and cinches symmetrically with even pressure. One of my annoyances with another metal inverted ligature is slipping, and getting the ligature centered while tightening. No problem with the Marc Jean, it doesn't rotate nor slip forward on the angled mouthpiece. Even the cap is well designed for the taller wood baseplate, and has cork-padded edges to protect the finish and provide some grip to keep it in place.
All told, for me, this is the best tenor ligature I've used. Plus, Morgan's customer service is excellent: questions get answered fast, and everything is packed well and ships quickly at reasonable cost.
